Friends of North Springs (FONS)
FONS is delighted to announce an award to NSCHS by Turner Voices in Technology, a philanthropic division of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. In conjunction with faculty members, Sallie Holloway, Interactive Media Teacher and Chris English, Business & Computer Science Teacher, FONS submitted an application that was accepted on March 13th.
In late Spring, students will be escorted to Turner facilities to participate in a Career Exploration Workshop, a special day-long experience with hands-on activities, tours and panel discussions with bright Turner leaders in technology-related fields.
FONS was alerted to this valuable Turner program by a NSCHS parent employed by TBS and looks forward to further identifying and building on the synergy between our Academy curricula and Turner's interests in supporting technology and arts-related education.
iPads to the Classroom!
On March 13th, FONS Board members' distributed iPads to the Social Studies and Language Arts departments. This purchase complements existing iPads in the Science department and will allow these departments to enhance their teaching methods through more efficient, measurable and engaging technology.
To protect and secure this mobile technology, iPad cases, Apple Care Support and storage/administrative carts were purchased with the iPad devices.
FONS is grateful for the support of our school community that enabled a successful Gala and fundraiser for NSCHS on February 28, 2014. Almost 190 guests attended and over $28,000 in net profit was realized. Students are the key beneficiaries of the funds raised and disbursements will be made to the initiatives identified and prioritized by the Administration, Governance Board and collective school leadership.
Special thanks to our Sponsors, Donors, VIP guests and Committee Chair, Susan Hardy, who as a first year parent, courageously and expertly led the effort to create NSCHS' 50th Birthday Bash Gala. Susan brought valuable experience from her previous support for charity auctions but this was her first time coordinating an overall event. Her leadership and hard work came together to successfully deliver results and a festive evening for all patrons.
Thank you to our Gala Business Sponsor, Hale Retail Group, a full-service provider of commercial real estate services. Sam Hale, President and founding principal, was instrumental in the development of the upscale townhome community across the street from NSCHS, significantly enhancing the school's surroundings.
Sam has many personal connections to NSCHS. While his children attended North Springs, Sam served as PTA President and met another involved parent, Sue Smith. They married and together raised 4 North Springs' graduates. Sam and his 2 brothers are also NSHS alumni! Sam graduated from North Springs in 1969 and received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Real Estate from the University of Georgia.
Many thanks to the Hale family for their longstanding and generous support for North Springs Charter High School!
